Kia Motors has unveiled the Kia Sonet sub-compact SUV in a world premiere organised on Friday. The Kia Sonet, upon launch, will compete against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and the Ford EcoSport.

The sub-compact SUV was showcased in concept form at Auto Expo 2020 and ever since, has been one of the most talked-about cars in India. This is the third car that is being launched by Kia Motors in India as it comes after the very successful Seltos SUV and the Carnival MPV.

The Kia Sonet is intended to be a global model, but will be first hitting the Indian market first. It is expected that the Indian market launch and price announcement will be in September. The car will be priced between Rs 7 lakh and 12 lakh.

The subcompact SUV has a footprint that sits below four metres. Like the Seltos, the Kia Sonet has two trims - the GT Line and the Tech Line. The Sonet is more squarish and tall, sort of like the Ford EcoSport, unlike the majority of rivals that are more rectangular, according to NDTV

According to most autophiles, overall, the Sonet has a very attractive design and while looking modern will not be as polarising as the above mentioned rivals—especially the Venue and the XUV 300.
