Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that core technology was getting embedded in our world and is playing a significant role in our day to day life. He said technology had become pervasive and whether it is the retail segment, energy segment or public sector, it had touched each and every aspect of life. Nadella said that economies such as India can dream even more with technology from retail to healthcare to agriculture.
Nadella remarked that technology can drive growth, enhance customer experience and tackle some of India’s most pressing societal and environmental issues. He was addressing the technology community on the sidelines of 'Future Decoded' tech summit in Bengaluru.
Nadella explained that Microsoft’s mission was to help organisations jump-start their growth through transformational tech intensity which results from enterprises adopting best technology rapidly and building their own digital capability. “By 2030 there will be 50 billion connected devices the world over and around 175 Zetabytes of data will be generated by 2025. There is a need to have an effective computing fabric to address these needs and we are working towards it. We are also partnering with business in every industry across India to help them build their own digital capability and transform their organizations and achieve more in this new era,” said Nadella.
At the same time Nadella also expressed concerns about digital safety and how increasing number of cyber crimes and cyber attacks were becoming a growing menace to digital technology. He mentioned about Suresh Chelladurai a passionate security researcher from Tamil Nadu and how he was successful in detecting 21 vulnerabilities in the six months across Microsoft's different platforms. He also mentioned about 13-year-old girl Namya Joshi from Punjab how she used Minecraft, a video game to create course material explaining STEM and other concepts. He said that every developer should take an inspiration from her.
During his address, Nadella also pointed out some technology success stories resulting from the successful implementation of different Microsoft solutions. Nadella mentioned about the e-commerce fashion platform Myntra and how Microsoft's Azure had helped the platform scale rapidly for big spikes that occur routinely during festive seasons and how it had recorded a 50 per cent rise in orders in the latest edition of its biennial End of Reason Sale due to the solution.
Nadella also explained about Microsoft's Dynamics 365 and how it had helped the motorcycle brand Royal Enfield in achieving higher turnaround time and improved customer experience and touch points across the sales journey. Nadella informed that Royal Enfield is now able to follow up after a test ride and capture customer feedback, and also seek services appointments actively. Microsoft's D 365 is also helping them generate interesting insights across operations for instance they can now identify the most frequent reasons for repeat repairs.
One of the major focus of Nadella's talk was on the increasing usage of technology in the health sector. He mentioned about how Narayana Health was using Power BI solution from Microsoft to improve efficiency across 6,000 beds in its network of hospitals. The hospital chain had achieved around 60 per cent improvement in lab turnaround times to reduction of wastage of blood in the blood banks and had also bettered predicting surgery costs. Nadella said that Narayana Health is now using Microsoft's Power BI dashboards to track both financial and operational metrics that is offering them real-time insights across all hospitals. Earlier this process used to take more than two to three weeks to complete.
