Business tycoon Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, yet again topped the list of richest Indians in this year's Forbes Billionaires list. With a net worth of $40.1 billion, Ambani, placed 19th on the list of global peers, is closely followed by Alibaba's Jack Ma with $39 billion. Interestingly, scam-tainted diamantaire Nirav Modi has dropped off the billionaires list this year. Modi, with a fortune of $1.8 billion, was featured in Forbes' 2017 rich list.
IT giant Wipro's Azim Premji, is the second Indian on the list, following Ambani at a distant 58th position with a net worth of $18.8 billion. 119 Indians have made it to the ‘The World’s Billionaires’ list, with 18 of them newcomers. Ambani and Premji are followed by Lakshmi Mittal (No 62, $18.5 billion), Shiv Nadar (No 98, $14.6 billion) and Dilip Shanghvi (No 115, $12.8 billion).
“The superrich continue to get richer, widening the gap between them and everyone else,” said Luisa Kroll and Kerry A. Dolan, Assistant Managing Editors of Wealth, at Forbes Media.
The list also features Patanjali's Acharya Balkrishna ($6.3 billion) and Gautam Adani ($9.7 billion), among others. Savitri Jindal ($8.8 billion), sharing the 176th position globally with Sunil Mittal, is the lone Indian woman to feature among the top 20 richest Indian.
