You offered a discussion on the NEET paper leak in Parliament. How ready is the government to address the systemic problems in the examination system?

The government is ready to discuss the NEET paper case and all related matters. I have been reiterating that the government is ready to discuss issues concerning the youth, who are the future of this country and play the most important role in shaping progress for the country. The government is ready to place on record all details before the Parliament. I have been saying this from the first day of the monsoon session. We are ready even now, provided the opposition is keen to allow the proceedings to continue in Parliament.

How confident are you of the opposition’s participation in a constructive discussion?

We have conveyed to Congress leaders as well as leaders of other political parties that the government is ready for a discussion. Once the opposition parties are on board, the format of the discussion will be decided in consultation with everyone. On such serious matters concerning the future of our students, the opposition should not shy away from debate and discussion.

The discussions should be meaningful rather than symbolic as they impact the future of the youth and the country. If they are finding excuses to avoid a healthy and constructive discussion in the House, then there is definitely something wrong in their intention.

Why do you think the intention is lacking from the opposition, which is also out on the streets?

Whether it is the Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi, or Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, we are seeing them take up an opportunistic stance to draw public attention for political mileage, rather than adopt a constructive approach to make a real difference to the cause of education of our youngsters. If they were not blinded by their greed for power and need to damage the elected government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they would have been seen debating real issues in Parliament. It is also a crisis of credibility that the opposition is facing as people have voted them out of power and they are only trying to play negative politics now.

Why does the government want a discussion? Do you agree there are problems?

Any matter concerning the future of our youth is of importance to the government. We are keen to hear the voice of the young and their aspirations for their country. Once again, I call upon the opposition to present their views during the discussion, and I assure that every member has the right to express whatever they wish to. But if they want to impose conditions to stop the discussion or divert attention from the real issues, then it will prove that neither are they serious about the country nor are they respectful towards the rights of the youth. The government does not run away from any issue. In a democracy, I repeat, it is the responsibility of the government to inform people about the work being done by the government for them. We want their constructive feedback so that we are able to address their expectations and aspirations for a Viksit Bharat. I request the opposition to support the cause of the youth in a constructive manner, befitting a democracy.
