Bhai Dooj, which celebrates the warm and loving bond between brothers and sisters, falls two days after Diwali and this time, it is celebrated on October 23.
Significance of Bhai Dooj
The word Bhai means brother and Dooj is the second day after the new moon. It is called Bhau Beej in Maharashtra, Bhai Phota in West Bengal and Yam Dwitiya in South Indian states.

On this day, sisters applies tilak on their brother's forehead for his prosperity and long life. The brother promises to protect his sister in return.
The mythology behind Bhai Dooj
Bhai Dooj commemorates the killing of demon Narakasura, following which Lord Krishna meets his sister Subhadra. She applied tilak on his forehead and fed him sweets.
