Dr Satya Prakash Gupta is counted among those renowned doctors of the state who have left an indelible mark in people’s hearts due to the style of approach to treating patients.
Dr Gupta started his private hospital, SP Surgical Center, from a rented house in Ardali Bazar and never looked back. In 2007, he shifted the hospital to his own building, and today, it is equipped with all modern facilities, keeping surgery requirements in mind.
Son of late Shiv Kumar Gupta, who was a businessman in Varanasi, Dr Gupta was a sincere student and good in his studies and sports alike. After completing his higher secondary education at Shri Baldev Inter College located in Badagaon village of Varanasi, he was admitted to Banaras Hindu University. Later, he went to Allahabad to pursue an MBBS in 1985. He obtained an MBBS degree in 1991 from MLN Medical College and after that he went to Sarojini Naidu Medical College in Agra to pursue his MS. In 1995, he earned his MS degree.
Meeting his life partner
Dr Alka Gupta was his classmate at MLN Medical College and Sarojini Naidu Medical College. Later, their friendship became a relationship, and they became life partners. She is currently running Alka Pathology Clinic in Varanasi.
Family
Dr Ishita Gupta, the elder daughter of Dr S.P. Gupta and Dr Alka Gupta, has done her MBBS from Nilratan Sircar Medical College, Kolkata, and MD from Kasturba Gandhi Medical College, Manipal. Tanishka Gupta, their second daughter, is currently pursuing MBBS at Maulana Azad Medical College.
Awards and recognition
Given Dr Gupta’s work in the field of medicine, he was also honoured with the President’s Award by the Indian Medical Association in 2015 and again in 2021. Dr Gupta has also worked with the Bharat Vikas Parishad and the National Medical Organisation for a long time and is currently the President of NMO and Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram in Varanasi, and the co-convenor of the Varanasi Medical Cell of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Seeing his good work, Dr Gupta’s story was published in the coffee table book, Icons of India, by a leading Publication Group in the year 2022. He was also awarded the Pioneers in Healthcare award by Honourable Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha in 2023.
