A torch bearer of medical service has to inspire the generations in this profession, and no one understood this responsibility better than Dr Sahajanand. Prasad Singh, understood this responsibility.
Currently, as an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of General Surgery at Vardhman Institute of Medical Sciences, Pawapuri, Nalanda, he is known as the most popular teacher and an efficient surgeon of Bihar.
Dr Sahajanand has made a distinct position among the doctors, his patients, and even the administrative staff. He keeps organising National Mega Health camps of Govt. of India in collaboration with IMA, Bihar. He always leads all the Socio Medical Programmes of IMA like “Gaon Chalen, Beti Bachaao, Breastfeeding, on Childhood Diarrhea, Control of AIDS, T.B. and leprosy.”
He is always at the forefront of cooperating with the government to plan and execute gov-ernment health policies. However, he never shies away from dissenting against the policies that do not favour the Medical Profession and openly expresses his displeasure without bothering about the consequences. Dr Sahajanand’s style of functioning and approach has garnered huge support from his juniors, staff and patients.
The support from the team
Presently, Dr Sahajanand is a member of National Medical Commission (NMC). Dr Sahajanand is the immediate National Past President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA). Dr Sahajanand became a prominent name in the Medical Field because of his work as a Leader in IMA, Bihar and National IMA, where the late Dr A.K.N. Sinha, a pioneer and former President of National IMA, inducted him. He got the same kind of affection from all prominent leaders, like Dr N. Appa Rao, Dr Ketan Desai etc.
He serves as President of IMA (Bihar), Chief Election Commissioner of National IMA and member of CWC & Central Council, National IMA. He was the Organising Secretary of IMACON-2006 and Joint Organizing Secretary of the Golden Jubilee Conference of IMA - 1988.
Education and Career
He was born in a village of historical importance in Nalanda, Bihar, and passed out his MBBS from Nalanda Medical College, Patna and M.S. (General Surgery) from Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College, Meerut (U.P). He willingly and wholeheartedly served the poor section of society as a Medical Officer and Superintendent of ESI Hospital, Phulwarisharif at Patna for years to come.
Then, he topped the list of Lecturer in Surgery rec-ommended by BPSC and later served in Patna Medical College for several years.
Awards and Rewards
The Managing Committee of Dr B.C Roy Award Fund appreciated Dr Sahajanand Prasad Singh’s services, and while conferring on him, the ‘Dr B.C. Roy National Award and one of the country’s prestigious magazine groups honoured him with ‘Icons of Bihar’ in 2018.
In addition to the two awards, he was nominated for the Global Excellence Award in 2019 in Mumbai. Dr Singh was presented with the award by actress Madhuri Dixit. In 2022, he was felicitated with ‘Global Excellence Awards 2022’ by veteran actor Mr. Anupam Kher.
