Heavy rains caused flash flooding in Washington. Water even entered the White House and the staff worked with wet vacuum cleaners to drain the water. The areas of Maryland and Virginia received almost a month's worth rain and this led to flash flooding causing the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood emergency until 1:45 pm, local time.

Areas around the Potomac river witnessed heavy flooding. Air traffic heading towards the state has been affected due to the flood and air traffic heading towards Reagan National have been grounded.

Authorities and workers have begun rescue work and been aiding stranded motorists.

As per meteorological data, between 2 and 3 billion gallons of water fell on Washington D.C. 68 sq miles (1.5-2.0 inches) from the slow-moving deluge. Urban flooding seemed inevitable.
