Kashmir: Noted pharmacist among three civilians shot dead

Three people, including noted pharmacist Makhan Lal Bindroo, were shot dead on Tuesday evening by unidentified gunmen in Srinagar and Bandipora.

Bindroo, 68, was at Iqbal Park area of Srinagar at his shop around 7 pm.

Sources said he was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.

A Kashmir Pandit, Bindroo was one of the few in his community who did not migrate out of Kashmir after the onset of militancy in 1990.

He stayed back along with his wife to continue operating his pharmacy Bindroo Medicate.

Soon after the shooting, police reached the spot and set up multiple checkpoints in the area.

A second civilian was shot in Lalbazar area of Srinagar. He died on the spot. The deceased was identified as Virender Paswan of Bhagalpur in Bihar, and he used to sell Bhelpuri in Lalbazar.

The third civilian was shot dead at Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The deceased was identified as Muhammad Shafi alias Sonu. He was taken to the hospital in a critical condition but was declared brought dead.

Political leaders have expressed concern over the killing of civilians.
