Irish swimmer makes waves; covers Alibaug-Mumbai in 7.51 hours
Mumbai, Nov 29 (PTI) Irish swimmer Ned Denison swam
from the coastal town of Alibaug in adjoining Raigad district
to the Gateway of India here Wednesday just for "fun" as he
completed the 36-km sea distance in 7 hours and 51 minutes.
The 61-year-old swimmer's journey was overseen by
an official appointed by the Swimming Federation of India.
Denison covered the distance in 7 hours and 51
minutes, he said.
"It was a good swim. I was friends with (Marathon
swimmer from India) Shubham Vanmali, who wrote an email to me
and said `why don't you come to Mumbai and swim'.
"I booked my ticket (to India) and came here but I
still don't know why I was doing it. I did it (undertook the
swim) for fun," Denison told PTI from Jaipur, a day after he
achieved the feat.
The swimmer from Ireland claimed he has done 48
marathon swims across the World.
He said the swim from Alibaug to Gateway of India was
a "challenge and one of the warmest swims" he had undertaken
in his career. PTI NRB
