Dehradun, May 26 (PTI) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report regarding a fire at a private hospital in Uttarakhand's Dehradun district that led to the death of a patient, the rights body said on Tuesday.
The commission has issued notices to the Uttarakhand Chief Secretary and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Dehradun, seeking a detailed report on the incident within two weeks.
According to the media report dated May 21, the fire broke out on May 20 following a blast caused by a short circuit in an air conditioner.
Fourteen patients were rescued from the facility and shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Among them, a female patient was declared dead, while 10 others sustained injuries. Three police personnel involved in the rescue operation also fell ill and had to be hospitalised.
The NHRC observed that the contents of the news report, if true, raise a serious issue of human rights violation.
