Gurugram, May 27 (PTI) Two people, including a woman based in Dubai, were arrested for allegedly using SIM boxes to carry out investment fraud and digital arrests, police said on Tuesday.
A cyber police team conducted a raid with technical surveillance assistance on April 2 at an office in Emerald Plaza in Gurugram Sector 65 concerning suspicious mobile numbers used in cyber fraud. Police on Monday arrested the duo, including the woman who was currently in the city.
They allegedly purchased SIM boxes -- to disguise international calls as local numbers -- and registered an office under the name Tikal AI Call Centre.
They allegedly set up the SIM box infrastructure, which were used to for fake investment opportunities and digital arrests, and allegedly received approximately Rs 7 lakh in return.
During the raid, four SIM boxes, network devices, and internet connection equipment were recovered. Twenty-one cyber fraud complaints have been registered in different states against the accused, police said.
A case was registered at the cyber crime police station (south). The police team on Monday arrested two persons -- Manoj (32) and Dubai-based Tamanna (25).
"We are questioning the accused and further legal action will be taken as per law. The case is under investigation," a Gurugram Police spokesperson said.
