New Delhi, May 26 (PTI) A 17-year-old student was shot and critically injured at a restaurant in southeast Delhi's Amar Colony area after he objected to a youth brushing past his chair while leaving the eatery, police said on Tuesday.
The victim was rushed to Moolchand Hospital but was referred to the AIIMS, where his condition was stated to be critical, and he was put on ventilator support.
The incident was reported to the police at 7.54 pm.
According to the police, the teenager had gone to the eatery with his friends, including a girl, when a group of boys passed by their table.
"During the movement, one of the boys touched the chair of the victim. The victim objected and asked him to walk properly," a police officer said.
The passing group left the restaurant, but returned after around four to five minutes, and one of them fired a gunshot at the victim before fleeing, the officer said.
The police said that the victim's father runs a laundry business in the Chattarpur Enclave area.
"Multiple teams have been formed to identify and apprehend the accused persons," the officer said.
CCTV footage from the restaurant and surrounding areas is being scanned to establish the sequence of events and trace the route used by the accused to escape, the officer said.
The boy is undergoing treatment at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
