Para teacher ends life in UP' s Pratapgarh family says was under mental stress

Pratapgarh (UP), May 12 (PTI) A 35-year-old Shikshamitra, a para teacher engaged to assist teaching in government primary schools in Uttar Pradesh, allegedly died by suicide by shooting himself with a country-made pistol at his home here, police said on Tuesday.
     City Circle Officer Prashant Raj Huddar said Yogendra Saroj, a resident of Bahlolpur village, was posted at a primary school in the area.
     Saroj returned home from school on Monday evening and later shot himself in his room, seriously injuring himself, police said.
     He was rushed to the medical college where doctors declared him dead, the officer said.
     Police reached the spot after receiving information and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
     On the district magistrate's orders, the autopsy was conducted by a panel of two doctors and videographed, police said.
     Family members told police that Saroj had been under mental stress for the past several days. The reason for it remains to be ascertained, police said.
     Prima facie, the incident appears to be a case of suicide due to mental distress, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.
