Kolkata, Apr 26 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Sunday address two rallies in North 24 Parganas and Hooghly districts and participate in a road show in Kolkata to galvanise support for BJP candidates in the last phase of assembly elections in West Bengal.
His first rally will be at Thakurnagar, a stronghold of the Matua community, in North 24 Parganas around 2.15 pm, a senior BJP leader said.
Besides holding his public meeting at the headquarters of the Matua Mahasangha, he is also scheduled to visit the community's temple housing the shrines of the sect's founders, Hari Chand and Guru Chand Thakur.
Modi is expected to address the perceived concerns among the Matua community, where the BJP has made significant gains in recent years, stemming from large-scale SIR-related deletions in the region.
He would then travel to Hooghly district, where he will hold another rally in the semi-agrarian and semi-urban belt of Haripal around 3.45 pm.
The PM is then scheduled to head for Kolkata, where he will visit the revered Kali temple in north Kolkata's Thanthania at around 5.15 pm before moving further north in the city for a scheduled road show.
Modi will spearhead the high-profile road show in the evening, which is expected to commence from B K Pal Avenue and conclude at the Khanna Crossing, traversing the arterial thoroughfares in the northern parts of the city, the BJP leader said.
It is likely to begin around 5.30 pm and conclude by 7.30 pm, with traffic disruptions anticipated in several areas along the route.
Polling in the first phase, held on April 23 across 152 constituencies, recorded a voter turnout of 93 per cent.
The remaining 142 seats will go to polls in the second phase on April 29, with the Election Commission ensuring tight security, including the deployment of central forces.
Modi has undertaken several visits to the state in recent weeks, addressing multiple rallies across West Bengal, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also been actively overseeing the party's campaign on the ground.
