Uttarakhand Thunderstorms gusty winds likely high temperatures persist in plains

Dehradun, Apr 25 (PTI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a warning for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places in Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand.     
    The weather office stated that very light to light rain, thunderstorms, or snowfall is likely at isolated places in the hills of Uttarakhand, specifically in areas with an altitude of 4400m and above. Dry weather is expected to prevail across the plains of the state, the Meteorological Centre, Dehradun, said in its evening bulletin.    
    According to the weather department, maximum temperatures in the plains are likely to remain appreciably above normal.    
    In the past 24 hours, maximum temperatures were already appreciably above normal in the plains and ranged from above normal to appreciably above normal in the hilly regions, the weather office noted.     
    "No significant change is likely to occur in maximum temperature during the next 2-3 days over Uttarakhand," the Meteorological Centre, Dehradun, added.    
    In the state capital, Dehradun, the sky is expected to be mainly clear to partly cloudy.    
    The weather department predicted thundercloud development in some areas, with maximum and minimum temperatures hovering around 39 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius, respectively.     
    Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 38 degrees Celsius today, 5 degrees above normal, while Pantnagar reached a high of 40.4 degrees.    
    Moderate to light rainfall was recorded earlier today in Ukhimath (17.5 mm) and Thal (14.5 mm), respectively.
