Kolkata, Apr 18 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday said West Bengal was lagging behind in development and asserted that people want "freedom from jungle raj".
Speaking to the media during his election campaign at Kamarhati, in the northern outskirts of the city, Yadav said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, states across the country, including Madhya Pradesh, were progressing rapidly, but Bengal was falling behind.
"Under the leadership of Modi, every state, including Madhya Pradesh, is progressing rapidly, but Bengal is lagging behind," he said.
He also claimed that the people of Bengal now wanted change and development.
"The people of Bengal want freedom from jungle raj and want to move towards development. They want a BJP government with a massive majority," he said.
Yadav asserted that choosing the BJP was essential for development. "It is necessary to choose the BJP for development," he added.
Campaigning in the Kamarhati assembly segment, the BJP leader interacted with locals and alleged that poverty and unemployment were prevalent in the area.
"There is a lot of poverty in the interior areas of Kolkata. Youth do not have jobs, and people are forced to migrate to sustain their families," he said.
The Madhya Pradesh CM claimed that Bengal had immense potential for growth but had suffered due to "misgovernance".
"Bengal has unlimited possibilities in every sector, but it has been pushed backwards. Earlier, the Left and then the TMC governments have ruined the state," he said.
Pitching for a "double-engine" government, Yadav said, "With a BJP government here under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, Bengal will move ahead with new energy, new direction and rapid progress. A new chapter of development will be written..
Referring to electoral roll revision, he said the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) was necessary. "SIR has focused on identifying genuine voters, and it is essential to maintain the strength of patriotic citizens," he said.
He also linked the exercise to infiltration. "SIR is necessary to stop Bangladeshi infiltrators. For Bengal's progress, the BJP is necessary," he added.
The BJP leader expressed confidence that the BJP would emerge as the dominant political force in the state. "We expect a BJP government will be formed here and development will accelerate," he said.
