Ranchi/Medininagr, Apr 8 (PTI) Two persons were hacked to death in separate family disputes in Jharkhand’s Ranchi and Palamu districts, police said on Wednesday.
In Ranchi, an elderly man was hacked to death allegedly by his son after he refused to give him money early on Wednesday, a police official said.
The incident took place at Haratand within the Airport police station limits around 2 am.
Accused Kamal Sahu (32) has been arrested, while his deceased father has been identified as Govind Sahu (60), he said.
"Preliminary investigation found that the accused was demanding Rs 2 lakh from his father. When he refused, an altercation broke out and quickly escalated into violence. In a fit of rage, Kamal picked up a spade and struck his father multiple times on the head, causing his death," Airport police station OC Pankaj Sharma said.
Police have recovered the murder weapon, the OC said.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination at RIMS, and the accused has been sent to judicial custody after an FIR was lodged in this regard, police said.
In Palamu district, police arrested one Sintu Bhuiyan (19) for hacking to death his 35-year-old brother Pintu in Thekhi village within Panki police station limits.
The incident had occurred on Monday after an altercation between them. Both were in a drunken state at the time of the incident. An FIR in this regard was lodged by the deceased’s wife.
"The accused has confessed to the crime, and the axe which he used for the murder has been recovered. He has been sent to judicial custody," Panki OC Rajesh Kumar said.
