Gandhinagar, Mar 17 (PTI) A five-member committee constituted by the Gujarat government to draft the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) for the state submitted its detailed and final report to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday.
In its presentation made while submitting this report to the CM, the panel stated that it has suggested a common legal framework for all religions and communities on issues like marriage, divorce, inheritance and adoption in this draft report, a government release said.
In particular, equal rights and protection of women have been given priority in the draft.
The geographical and cultural diversity of Gujarat has also been kept in mind in preparing the report, the release said.
Retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai handed over the three volumes of the report to the chief minister in Gandhinagar, it said.
The committee also comprises retired IAS officer CL Meena, senior advocate R C Kodekar, former Vice Chancellor of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University Dr Dakshesh Thakar, and social activist Geeta Shroff.
