Jaipur Murder accused tries to snatch cops revolver arrested after brief encounter

Jaipur, Jul 21 (PTI) A day after a 22-year-old man was stabbed to death in Jaipur over an old enmity, the police on Monday arrested the prime accused following a brief encounter after the latter attempted to escape arrest by snatching the service revolver of a cop, officials said.
The accused identified as Anas Khan sustained a gunshot wound on his leg after the police opened fire to stop him from escaping.
On Sunday night, Khan and his aides had confronted Vipin, with whom he had a long-standing feud, near the latter's house in the Paldi Meena area.
As a heated argument broke out between the two, Khan stabbed Vipin multiple times on the chest before fleeing from the spot.
Vipin was rushed to the SMS Hospital where he died due to excessive bleeding. Police said there were nearly two dozen stabbing marks on the victim's chest.
Khan even claimed responsibility for the murder by issuing a video on social media, which he deleted later, police sources said.
There was tension in the area on Monday morning after Vipin’s family members and locals blocked the Jaipur-Agra highway demanding immediate arrest of the accused. The agitators also pelted stones at some shops.
The tension finally eased after the police detained some suspects for questioning.
Meanwhile, the victim's autopsy could not be conducted as the family members refused to give their consent.
Talks are going on with the family members to end the deadlock, sources said.
Police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order, sources said.
