Five persons get 6-year RI for Rs 12 lakh dacoity at grocer's house in Thane


    Thane, Jul 17 (PTI) A Thane court has sentenced five persons to six years' rigorous imprisonment for robbing a grocer of cash and jewellery of Rs 12.15 lakh in 2018.

     Additional Sessions Judge N L Kale, in the order on Wednesday, held that the prosecution has proved all charges, including dacoity, against the accused beyond reasonable doubt.
    The court also imposed a fine of Rs 3,500 each on the accused, who are in the age group of 31 to 47 years.

    Additional Public Prosecutor Vijay Munde told the court that the accused, who had covered their faces with handkerchiefs, broke into the house of a grocer at Bhadvad in Bhiwandi area of Maharashtra's Thane district in the wee hours of August 2, 2018.
    They threatened the grocer and his family members and robbed them of valuables of Rs 12.15 lakh, including Rs 8.75 lakh in cash.
    
    The accused locked the house occupants in a bedroom and fled, the prosecution said.
    The judge held that the prosecution proved all the charges against the accused.
    A total of 23 prosecution witnesses were examined to prove the charges against the accused, Munde said.
