New Delhi, Jul 17 (PTI) Delhi Police has busted an interstate syndicate involved in the illegal supply of psychotropic drugs with the arrest of three people, an official on Thursday said.
The official said that police recovered 2,160 capsules of banned medicine Tramadol.
The accused, identified as Harish Khurana (55), Gautam Singh and Amit Goyal (49), have been arrested, police said.
The syndicate was supplying banned drugs from Gorakhpur's Market to Bhagirath Palace in Delhi, they said.
"Acting on an input, a team laid a trap near the Tis Hazari Court complex on June 1 and apprehended Harish Khurana while he was delivering a consignment of Tramadol. A total of 2,160 capsules were recovered from his possession," said a police officer.
Khurana was previously involved in similar cases and had resumed the illegal trade after being released from jail in 2024, police said.
He operated a small ayurvedic medicine shop in Bhagirath Palace and allegedly used it as a front to distribute banned medicines, they said.
Further interrogation led to the arrest of a local supplier, identified as Gautam Singh, who operated from Bhagirath Palace.
Singh initially worked as a medicine packer before setting up his own shop selling over-the-counter drugs and cosmetics, police said.
He allegedly procured the Tramadol capsules from Amit Goyal in Gorakhpur, they said.
"Goyal, who owns a medical shop in the wholesale medicine hub of Bhalotia Market, admitted to sending the banned drugs via courier, concealing them as regular pharmaceutical consignments. He was arrested from Gorakhpur," said an officer, adding further investigation is underway.
