Amaravati, July 14 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday directed officials to revive the Andhra Pradesh FiberNet project to its former glory, alleging that it was dismantled by the previous YSRCP government.
Andhra Pradesh State FibreNet provides affordable triple play services, which include internet, telephone and IPTV.
The Chief Minister reviewed the current status of the project and assessed the requirement of the full restoration, including the challenges, financial issues and new policy decisions.
“Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to restore Andhra Pradesh FiberNet project, which was prestigiously introduced between 2014 and 2019 but completely destroyed by the previous government (YSRCP),” said an official press release, quoting the CM.
According to the CM, FiberNet was originally intended to benefit people, students, government wings and others but was allegedly used by the previous government for political purposes.
Though FiberNet once had 8.7 lakh connections, Naidu said the number dropped to 4.5 lakh under the previous regime.
The CM approved linking FiberNet with Amended BharatNet Programme, which could bring Rs 1,900 crore in funds to the state from 2025 and 2035, among other directives.
