Jaipur, Jul 12 (PTI) A couple riding a motorcycle died on the spot after being run over by a gas tanker in Rajasthan's Bharatpur on Saturday, police said.
The incident happened near Saras Chowk in Bharatpur in the morning.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Radha Kishan, a gas tanker going from Jaipur to Agra struck the motorcycle from the side, dragging it for a few metres before crashing into Saras Chowk. Both the victims died instantly, while the tanker driver abandoned the vehicle and fled, he said.
The deceased have been identified as Netrapal Gurjar (36), a farmer from Helak village, and his wife Kripa (32).
The ASI said the couple had gone to Bharatpur to visit their children -- Nidhi (19), Neha (18) and Durgesh (15) -- who were staying at their maternal uncle's residence in Police Lines for their studies. The accident happened when the couple was returning to Helak.
He said the bodies have been kept in a mortuary.
The tanker has been seized, and efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver using CCTV footage from the area, he added.
