Bulandshahr (UP), Jul 10 (PTI) Police in this Uttar Pradesh district have registered a case against eight named individuals and 45 to 50 unidentified people for allegedly installing a Gautam Buddha idol on a government land without permission, officials said on Thursday.
The idol was installed in Muni Ki Nagaliya village under the Arnia police station area on Wednesday, police said.
The accused have also been charged with obstructing government work and using abusive language against officials.
According to police, on Wednesday, several people, including both men and women, installed the idol on a government land without authorisation and then concealed it by building a brick wall around it.
The villagers allegedly pushed police and revenue department officials and employees and used abusive language against them, thereby obstructing official duties.
Station House Officer (SHO) of the Arnia police station Rajkumar Singh said, "A case has been registered against eight named and 45 to 50 unidentified people. Further legal action is being taken."
