Karnataka Municipal strike BBMP back to work others continue

Bengaluru, Jul 8 (PTI) Work was disrupted across 11 municipal corporations across Karnataka, including the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), on Tuesday as employees went on a strike under the banner of the Confederation of Karnataka State Municipal Corporation Employees’ Associations.
While the BBMP employees concluded their protest, the indefinite strike by employees of 10 municipal corporations is set to continue, said A Amruth Raj, State President of the Confederation.
A demonstration was held at Freedom Park in Bengaluru to press for various demands. In the state capital, a key demand was the reinstatement of revenue officers who had been suspended in connection with alleged lapses during the Scheduled Caste survey.
According to Raj, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath assured the employees that the issues concerning suspended personnel would be examined.
He also informed the staff that their demands would be communicated to the state government.
Employees from other municipal corporations, including those in Tumakuru, Mangaluru, Mysuru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi, and Vijayapura, participated in the protest seeking fulfilment of multiple service-related demands.
These include implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission allowances on par with state government employees, amendment and notification of the Karnataka State Municipal Corporation Cadre and Recruitment Rules, extension of Karnataka Government Insurance Department and General Provident Fund (GPF) benefits to municipal employees, similar to those available to state government staff, implementation of the Jyoti and Arogya Sanjeevini health schemes and cadre-wise promotions.
Director of Municipal Administration, Prabhulinga Kavalikatti, assured the protesting employees that the department is aware of the challenges faced by staff across all the municipal corporations and said the matter would be reviewed before initiating further action.
