Duo evading arrest for nearly 20 years man absconding for 8 years held in separate cases



    Chennai, Jul 3 (PTI) Two men absconding for nearly 20 years in a case related to causing a huge loss to the BSNL and an accused evading arrest for about 8 years in a fake visa case, have all been arrested, police said on Thursday.
    In a case related to causing a loss of Rs 49 lakh to the BSNL by not paying telephone bills, Syed Irbahim and Mohamed Taha Yaseen Hakeem went into hiding during the course of trial in a city court, which issued a warrant of arrest against them in the year 2006.
    The BSNL case was registered by the Central Crime Branch-Cyber Crime police station on March 26, 2003.
    Special teams worked on the case, held enquiries at Keelakarai in Ramanathapuram district, the native of the duo and busted their hideout in Chennai and the two men were arrested, a city police release said, adding they were produced before a court and were lodged in prison.
    As regards the fake visa case (under the Central Crime Branch), Sundar, one of the accused was absconding and the trial court issued a warrant of arrest on September 20, 2017. Due to sustained efforts, Sundar was arrested in a resort in the Nilgiris district, and he was produced before the court.
    As many as 29 persons believed a false promise of fraudsters, assuring job visas, and they were duped of a total Rs 18 lakh. Those who deposited money were provided fake visas, and the case, registered in the year 2006, is pending in court. A charge sheet has been filed against 10 accused persons in the case.
