Maharashtra Congress starts appointing party's taluka presidents 83 such posts filled so far

Mumbai, Jul 2 (PTI) The Maharashtra unit of the Congress has launched the process of appointing taluka presidents of the party through direct interviews, and made 83 such appointments so far.
In a statement, the party's state unit chief Harshwardhan Sapkal said key roles are being given to efficient and hardworking workers to strengthen the party organisation.
Only those who work will earn positions in the organisation. Move towards strengthening Congress across the grassroots in Maharashtra.
The state unit has begun strengthening party organisation and boosting activities across various districts in the state. As part of this effort, appointments of taluka presidents are now being made through direct interviews. So far, the state Congress president has personally conducted interviews and appointed 83 taluka presidents, the statement said.
This initiative aims to give committed and hardworking grassroots workers an opportunity to take up key roles. The decision has been widely welcomed by Congress workers, bringing renewed enthusiasm and energy within the party structure, it said.
Party observers toured the districts and following discussions with local office-bearers, recommended certain names to the state Congress, it added.
The appointments were made after interviews conducted by a selection committee headed by Sapkal.
The committee includes senior Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Balasaheb Thorat, legislature party leader Vijay Wadettiwar, party's group leader in the legislative council Satej Patil, and state working president and CWC member Naseem Khan.
The selection process is still underway, and the remaining appointments will be announced shortly. The process has been fully transparent and merit-based with a clear focus on empowering grassroots-level workers, the statement said.
District-wise appointments of taluka presidents done so far are Akola 8, Buldhana 19, Chandrapur 2, Jalgaon 8, Sindhudurg 1, Ulhasnagar 1, Ratnagiri 6, Thane City 3, Thane Rural 5 ,Ahilyanagar 3, Sangli 2, Pune 2, Solapur 1, Amravati 2, Dharashiv 1, Jalna 7, Hingoli 2, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar 6, Beed 3 and Yavatmal 1.
There are 358 talukas spread across 36 districts of the state.
