Basement pillars of three houses in Patna cave-in none hurt

Patna, Jun 22 (PTI) Residents of three houses in Patna's Boring Road crossing had to quickly vacate their homes on Sunday as the side portions of the basements of their houses caved in causing panic in the area, officials said.
Residents alleged the cave-in occurred due to digging work in the adjacent plot. No injuries were reported in the incident, an official said.
According to a statement issued by the state Disaster Management Department (DMD), "The incident occurred at 2.30 am on Sunday when a portion of the basement of three houses caved in near Patna's Boring Road crossing.
Immediately after receiving the information, officials of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the spot and helped vacate the affected houses, the DMD statement said.
"Officials of the DMD, SDRF & NDRF, Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and district administration are present on the spot and assessing the situation," it said.
Talking to PTI, Patna District Magistrate (DM) Thyagarajan S M, said, "Prime facie it appears that the builder, who was carrying out the digging work in the adjacent plot, had not obtained requisite approval from the Patna Municipal Corporation. He had not even submitted the plan/map of the building for which he was digging the earth there.
A committee has been constituted to investigate the cause of the incident and also find out the illegality on the part of the builder, the DM said after visiting the spot.
Stringent action will be taken against all those who are responsible for the incident after the committee submits its report, he said.
There were no injuries in the incident reported, he added.
