3 killed as intense rains lash Rajasthan


    Jaipur, Jun 21 (PTI) Rajasthan experienced widespread and intense rainfall as the southwest monsoon became active across the state, the Met department said on Saturday.
    The heavy rains left many areas in Bhilwara flooded.
    In Jodhpur, a car fell into a drain from a waterlogged road, resulting in the deaths of three people.
    The incident occurred in Daijar where the car fell into a nearly 6-feet-deep drain.
    Following a rescue operation, the car was pulled out of the drain.
    Businessman Hariprakash Bhandari (58) and his relatives Urmila Devi (72) and Mandhana (70) died in the incident, the police said.
    Niwai in the Tonk district recorded the highest rainfall, measuring 165 mm within 24 hours, ending at 8.30 am.
    Most areas in eastern Rajasthan reported rainfall, with some regions experiencing heavy to very heavy showers. Western Rajasthan also saw scattered rain, with intensities varying from light to heavy.
    Significant rainfall measurements included 153 mm in Chaksu (Jaipur), 139 mm in Chauth ka Barwara (Sawai Madhopur), 119 mm in Sikrai (Dausa), 116 mm in Bundi, and 115 mm in Kota.
    The forecast further predicted that rainfall would continue in parts of the state on June 21.
    From morning to evening on Saturday, Bhilwara recorded 175 mm of rainfall, followed by 44.9 mm in Kota, 27 mm in Chittorgarh, and 12.6 mm in Jodhpur. Several other locations received less than 12 mm of rain during this period.
    Heavy to very heavy rain is likely in regions under the Bharatpur, Jaipur and Kota divisions on June 22 and 23.
