Dhaka, Jun 23 (PTI) A former MP of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League was arrested on Monday for alleged corruption, incitement to political violence and conspiracy against the state, a media report said.
The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested former reserved seat MP Sabina Akter Tuhin from Nawabganj upazila, United News of Bangladesh reported.
Joint Commissioner of DB (North) Mohammad Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan said she faces multiple cases involving corruption, incitement to political violence and conspiracy against the state.
Separately, former independent lawmaker Mohammad Faisal Biplob was arrested by another DB team on Sunday evening in connection with a murder case linked to last year’s July movement.
The former Munshiganj-3 MP was arrested from the capital’s Monipuripara area.
According to DB officials, both Tuhin and Biplob had been under law enforcement surveillance as suspects in a recent incident of political violence and murder.
Nobel Peace Prize leaureate Muhammad Yunus took over as the head of the interim government after Hasina was ousted in a massive student-led protest in August last year. She fled to India following the toppling of her Awami League government.
Most senior leaders of the Awami League and ministers and senior officials of the ousted regime were arrested or fled the country after the fall of the then government.
