Bhopal, Mar 29 (PTI) Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu on Sunday e-inaugurated key passenger facilities at Raja Bhoj Airport in Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal.
He inaugurated a domestic arrival hall, a fire station and formally launched the 'Digi Yatra' at an event held in Rajkot in neighbouring Gujarat in the presence of Airports Authority of India Chairman Vipin Kumar and Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha, while MLA Rameshwar Sharma and Mayor Malti Rai attended the programme here.
"A ceremonial water cannon salute was presented by the fire and rescue team to mark the occasion. The newly commissioned fire station, equipped with advanced Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting infrastructure, will enhance safety and enable upgradation from CAT-VII to CAT-IX, strengthening emergency preparedness," airport director Ramjee Awasthi told PTI.
Officials and dignitaries welcomed 174 passengers of an Air India flight from Mumbai that was the first to use the new arrival hall, he added.
With the development, Bhopal airport becomes the first in Madhya Pradesh to operate arrivals and departures on separate floor levels, enhancing passenger convenience and reducing congestion, officials said.
Digi Yatra has also been formally launched at the airport after successful trials, enabling contactless passenger processing, they added.
