Carborundum Universal commences production at its cutting and grinding wheel unit in TN

Chennai, Mar 17 (PTI) Carborundum Universal Ltd has commenced the commercial production of its cutting and grinding wheels at its facility in Hosur, the company said.
    In 2023, Carborundum Universal Ltd, part of the diversified conglomerate Murugappa Group, acquired the manufacturing lines, technology and brand of DRONCO GmbH, Germany.
    With the production, the capacity of the facility would double from 45 million to over 90 million wheels per annum, a company statement said on Tuesday.
    "The plant was established at an outlay of Rs 83 crore and at peak capacity utilisation, is expected to generate a turnover of Rs 160 crore," it said.
    Post acquisition from DRONCO GmbH, the manufacturing lines have been relocated and commissioned at the Hosur facility. Some of the unique features of the plant are automated press lines, which are integrated with unmanned oven handling and curing systems, ambient control system ensuring stability in the raw material characteristics among others.
    The products manufactured would serve a wide range of industrial applications, including fabrication, general engineering and construction, the statement added.
