India’s support to Ukraine has been acknowledged internationally. From the outset, India has made every effort to ensure that both Russia and Ukraine are engaged constructively (‘We are actively working to end the war this year’, April 6).
Positioned suitably from the beginning, India has played—and continues to play—a meaningful role in promoting peace in the region. Similarly, India must navigate the complexities in other parts of the world with the same diplomatic finesse.

India is now in a position to make a meaningful difference in the pursuit of lasting peace across the world. This has marked a significant victory for diplomacy.
For all countries, the constant effort must be towards peace—without compromising on the core principles one stands for.

Remain above suspicion
With a measure of vigilance from both the public and the authorities, it is possible to mandate and enforce acceptable norms of conduct for judges (‘When the gavel falls’, April 6).
To ensure transparency and accountability, a system that reviews how faithfully judicial pronouncements adhere to Constitutional principles and available evidence—particularly in cases where a judge’s rulings are frequently overturned by higher courts—would be highly beneficial. Scrutiny of the patterns of wealth accumulation is equally critical. After all, judges are expected to remain above suspicion.
