It relieves me to know that many hospitals in India are building a health care system that will help them manage the pandemic in a much better way (‘Upgrading for the challenge’, January 23).

The third wave of the pandemic has created havoc in India. Many children have already been affected, which is quite sad. It is wrong to say that the third wave is not as severe because of good vaccination coverage. Even the vaccinated are being hit hard.

The onus, now, is on all hospitals, both private and government, to build a pandemic-resistant health care system. The government also needs to look at ways to beat the economic slump and make sure there are no mass job losses.

The great Shastri

I thank The WEEK for giving Lal Bahadur Shastri due credit through your article (‘Bird that soared’, January 23). Shastri was no doubt honest, simple, a patriot, and a person of integrity groomed by Jawaharlal Nehru for top leadership. Shastri was a capable decision-maker. But with his socialistic background, it was doubtful whether he would have brought the required economic growth. He would have no doubt ensured secularism and unity in diversity.

AAP in Punjab

In all probability, the Aam Aadmi Party will win the election in Punjab and form the next government in the state (‘Alt option’, January 23).

Bhagwant Mann is quite popular in Punjab. If AAP wins Punjab, then it will also win Goa in 2027.
