As US President Donald Trump lands in the UK for his historic second state visit, which includes meeting King Charles, speculations are rife that Queen Camilla won’t attend any events that include Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. This comes as the Queen was notably absent from the Duchess of Kent’s high-profile royal funeral.
The Palace had also released a statement stating that the Queen pulled out of the funeral due to “acute sinusitis” and was hoping to recover from the virus; the statement did not rule out the possibility that she could skip elements of Trump’s state visit. As per the initial schedule, she is to take part in a carriage procession and the lavish state banquet. She was also scheduled to give Melania a tour of the castle’s royal library and the famous Queen Mary's Dolls' House.
However, the unexpected withdrawal sparked speculations that Queen Camilla is soft-launching the cancellation of more events later this week, including President Trump's upcoming state visit. There were also rumours on social media that Camilla was actively trying to avoid being photographed alongside Trump,
The move immediately raised suspicions on social media that Camilla was trying to wriggle out of being pictured alongside Trump. “The queen dramatically pulled out of a family funeral in what many suspect was a ploy to avoid having to humor the most loathed man in the world,” one user posted on X. Another linked it to the controversy over Trump’s alleged links with Jeffrey Epstein, stating Camilla’s sudden sickness was a “show of support to Epstein’s victims.”
However, a friend of Queen Camilla has told Daily Beast that there was “no way” Camilla would try to snub Trump. “There is no way she would shirk her duty. She knows how important this is to the government and her husband. Her job is supporting him,” the unnamed friend added.
The Palace has also confirmed that Camilla had traveled from Scotland, where she and Charles had spent several weeks, to Windsor on Tuesday.
