Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old Utah resident arrested on suspicion of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily harm, and obstruction of justice charges, in connection with the murder of conservative activist and Donald Trump loyalist Charlie Kirk had reportedly supported Trump once.

According to a CNN report, a classmate of the suspect claimed that Robinson, like his family members, was politically conservative and in 2020, supported Trump in the US elections.

“When I knew him and his family, they were like diehard Trump...When this happened, I was like… I don’t know what changed," the classmate was quoted as saying by CNN.

However, according to registration records, Robinson is not affiliated with any party.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox had, on Friday, said a family member of Robinson had said the youngster had become "more political in recent years" and had criticised Kirk, and observed that the right-wing activist was due to appear at an upcoming event in Utah. "Kirk was full of hate and spreading hate," Robinson had claimed.

Robinson has also been described as an avid gamer by the classmate who said Robinson and his friends used to spend their lunches playing card games, "and all that kind of stuff."

According to the classmate, Robinson was fun to be around and fun to talk to, but was shy.

Robinson was apprehended after his father recognised him from the images released by the authorities. His father reached out to a pastor who helped the suspect turn himself in.
