Spaniard Quique Sanchez Flores was appointed as the new manager of defending Europa League champions Sevilla on Monday. 58-year-old Flores was hired by the La Liga club to replace Diego Alonso, who was fired after just 14 games in charge of the team.

Quique Sanchez Flores, whose last stint was with Getafe is the third coach of Sevilla this season. Getafe sacked him after they fell into the relegation zone, the Reuters reported.

Flores had earlier managed Watford, Espanyol, Atletico Madrid, Benfica and Valencia, among other European clubs. "Sevilla FC and Quique Sanchez Flores have reached an agreement for the coach to become the new coach of the first team, signing until 2025," Sevilla said in a statement.

Uruguayan Diego Alonso was sacked on Saturday after he managed just two wins since his appointment in October. After he replaced Jose Luis Mendilibar, the Seville-based side failed to win a single La Liga game or European competition. Sevilla, now 17th, next visit fellow strugglers Granada in the league on Tuesday.
