Asian Games: India win first gold in men's 10m air rifle with a world record; rowers bag another bronze

The shooters broke the month-old world record set by the Chinese

Team India won its first gold on Monday in the men's 10m air rifle event as the Indian trio of Rudrankksh Patil, Olympian Divyansh Panwar and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar shot down gold with a world record score. 

On the second day of shooting competition at the Asian Games, the Indian team broke the month-old world record set by the Chinese (1893.3) by scoring 1893.7 in the qualification round.

Rudrankksh shot 632.5, Tomar 631.6 and Panwar 629.6 to aggregate the world record score. South Korea clinched the silver with an aggregate of 1890.1, while China won the bronze with a score of 1888.2.

India also secured a bronze medal in the in Men's Four Rowing event, where the quartet of Jaswinder Singh, Bheem Singh, Punit Kumar and Ashish Kumar recorded a time of 6:10.81.

Uzbekistan took home the gold with a timing of 6:04.96 while silver went to China which scored 6:10.04.

Earlier the day, Indian rower Balraj Panwar finished in fourth spot in the final of the men’s single sculls event after missing the podium in a narrow margin. He clocked 7:08.79 while bronze medal winner Hong Kong’s Chun Hin Chiu scored 7:00.55. China’s Liang Zhang won the gold (6:57.06). 

Meanwhile, shooter Ramita Jindal, who won two medals in the Women's Air Rifle event, said she hopes to win a gold in the mixed-team. "I feel great and amazing. It was a good experience, and I am very happy to win two medals on the same day. I was planning to get a gold medal but I got to learn a lot here. I have mixed mixed-team event ahead, hoping to win a gold medal there," Jindal added.
