India's star cricketer Rishabh Pant had a miraculous escape when his luxury car crashed into a road divider and caught fire after he dozed off at the wheel on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in the early hours of Friday.
The driver and other staff of a Haryana Roadways bus passing by helped the cricketer get out of the burning Mercedes Benz.
The driver, Sushil Mann, did not know who the cricketer was, but others on the bus recognised Pant.
Mann told NDTV: "I don't watch cricket and I didn't know this is Rishabh Pant is. But others in my bus recognised him."
He said he saw the car being driven at a high speed and crushing onto the divider. The car landed on the wrong side of the road, he added.
"The car had screeched onto the second lane of the road seeing which I immediately applied the brakes. The car had already caught sparks so I and the conductor rushed to get him out of the car. By then the fire has started," Hindustan Times quoted the driver as saying.
He said after Pant was removed from the car, he searched to see if there are any others in it. There was a blue bag in the car which contained Rs 7,000- 8,000 which Mann gave to Pant who was in the ambulance by then.
The 25-year-old cricketer, who was on his way to his hometown Roorkee to surprise his mother, suffered injuries on his head, back and feet but is in stable condition.
