Legendary India batsman Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun on Sunday smashed a 31-ball 77 in a second-round Group A match against Islam Gymkhana at the Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2020-21.
The highlight of the young all-rounder’s knock was the five sixes he hit in a single over off spinner Hashir Dafedar.
MIG Cricket Club won the match by 194 runs. The tournament, the first cricket competition in Mumbai since the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was conducted under the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
Arjun Tendulkar’s match-winning knock comes just days ahead of the 2021 IPL auction, which will be held on February 18 in Chennai. He is among the 292 players listed for the auction, in the lowest base price category of Rs 20 lakh.
Arjun’s knock in the local Mumbai tournament included five boundaries and eight sixes. The left-arm fast bowler also displayed his prowess with the ball in the match with figures of 3/41 during his spell.
The 21-year-old made his debut for the Mumbai senior team last month during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Arjun’s team MIG, which elected to bat first, scored a mammoth 385/7 in 45 overs. Islam Gymkhana were bowled out for 191 in 41.5 overs. Apart from Arjun, his teammates Kevin D’Almeida (96) and Pragnesh Kandillewar (112) also contributed in the team’s victory.
