Google's fans in India have a reason to cheer. After what it seemed like a long wait, Google India has announced that it is all set to launch its smart speakers in India on April 10. "Get ready to #MakeGoogleDoIt, at home too. Coming soon," Google India announced on Twitter.

Google launched its smart speaker Google Home in 2016. It helps you set up "a smart home" with the help of devices modelled on the Internet of Things (IoT). The speaker talks to connected home devices and is powered by its AI-based assistant, Google Assistant. It is capable of responding to user's commands and will get you hands-free help around the house. For instance, to play music or your favourite show, just start with “Hey Google” followed by the command.

The speakers are compatible with both Android and iOS devices.

Amazon is already a popular player in the smart, connected home speakers segment in India. It had, in last October, launched a series of smart speakers including the Echo Dot, Echo and Echo Plus priced at Rs 4,499, Rs 9,999 and Rs 14,999, respectively. Google Home would directly compete with Amazon Echo, while Home Mini would position itself against the Echo Dot.

While Google has not indicated the prices, the Google Home is priced at $129 (Rs 8,400) and the Google Home Mini comes for $49 (Rs 3,200) in the US.
