A woman was arrested in Iran after staging a public protest in the city of Yasuj that saw her remove her head scarf and outer layers of clothes before chanting 'Death to the dictator'. She was immediately arrested by the security officials.

An eyewitness said the woman was dressed in a tank top and trousers and appeared to be in her late 20s, reported Iran International. The chant "Death to Dictator" is a slogan commonly used among dissidents against 85-year-old Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

The woman has not been publicly identified yet. Security forces immediately pounced on her and covered her up before bundling her into a vehicle, the report added.

This is the latest in a series of incidents wherein women were staging public protests. Last week, a video went viral on social media, purportedly from Iran, showing a woman standing naked on the hood of a police vehicle. The video shows a woman standing on the hood of a police vehicle on a city road with heavy traffic. The exact time and location of the footage are unclear, but many claim it is the religious city of Mashhad.

Many users expressed doubts that the woman could be suffering from mental illness, while others interpreted it as a protest.

This movement was triggered by the death of a young woman, Mahsa Amini, in September 2022 while in police custody over hijab violations.

Recently, another video circulated online showing a female student from Tehran's Islamic Azad University stripping to her underwear. Many claimed the student was protesting after being assaulted by security forces. Though she was apprehended by the Iranian authorities, the woman was later released after the authorities claimed she suffered from mental illness.
