Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party chief Nainar Nagendran slammed the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) over deteriorating law and order situation in the state on Thursday. Targeting the DMK, Nagendran said those who do not extend greetings for Diwali, will wish for Christmas, and charged that they are practising pseudo secularism.

Addressing an event at Tirunelveli, the Tamil Nadu BJP leader charged crime rate has increased in Tamil Nadu, and there is a rapid prevalence of drugs in the state. The BJP leader charged drugs are now available even in villages. Nagendran also slammed the state government over the recent assault against an Odisha youth by juveniles.

The DMK itself has forced the public to think about regime change in the state, he said. Nagendran asserted there will be a change of regime after the upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.

The BJP leader also charged that the state is in a deep financial crisis due to DMK's poor financial management. "Some people who don't wish Deepavali will give Pongal greetings. They will get away with it saying that it is a Tamil festival. They only wish for Christmas and practice pseudo-secularism," he charged. Nagendran also charged Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay, who advised party cadres and fans not to celebrate Diwali over the Karur stampede, but has wished for Merry Christmas. "Incidents like this make me wonder if he, too, is acting in favour of one side," he said.
