Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday sharpened his attack on the Centre and the Election Commission, saying the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral list is an attempt to cover up the alleged "vote theft".

The Raebareli MP, who had recently held a press conference alleging widespread malpractice in the 2024 Haryana elections, said he believes that similar “vote theft” has taken place in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, too.

“After seeing the data that I also presented in a press conference about how vote theft took place in Haryana, I think the BJP has done the same thing in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. We have all the evidence and will release it one by one - what we have shown so far is only a little,” he said.

Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, was talking to the media after addressing a training camp for the party’s district and city presidents at Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh’s Narmadapuram district.

He said the democracy was under attack as there had been an attempt to institutionalise "vote chori".

“There is an attack on democracy and the Constitution of BR Ambedkar. PM Modi, Amit Shah, and CEC Gyanesh Kumar are directly involved in it. By creating a kind of partnership, these people are damaging Bharat Mata,” he said.

Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are among the nine states where the voters' list clean-up drive is currently underway in its second phase. The process is on in three Union territories, too.
