Mumbai hostage crisis: How did Rohit Arya, who held children hostage in Powai flat, die?

A tense hostage situation in Mumbai concluded with the death of Rohit Arya, who had held 20 children captive at R A Studio

The man, who created a scare in Mumbai by holding 20 children hostage inside R A Studio in Mahavir Classic building, died during the police cross-fire.

Tension gripped when the man, identified as Rohit Arya, held the children hostage, demanding that he be allowed to speak to a few people.  

Arya was also carrying an air gun and some chemicals. According to the police, he called the children, most of the teenagers, for an audition for a web series.

Police received a call at about 1.45 pm about a man holding children hostage inside R A Studio in Mahavir Classic building.  The police, along with a Quick Response Team (QRT), Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and a fire brigade team, reached the spot.

According to media reports, Rohit Arya died after he suffered a bullet wound to his chest. Another person was also hurt during the exchange of fire.

Arya released a video on social media, saying he wanted to speak to a few people and ask them questions, and he did not want money. The cops attempted to negotiate with him, but as the talks made no headway, a police team entered the studio through the bathroom and overpowered him.
