In a shocking incident, the management of a madrasa in Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh demanded a virginity certificate from a 13-year-old girl.
According to media reports, the father of the girl claimed that the Jamia Asanul Banat Girls College (Madrasa) management threatened to expel the girl if they did not produce the certficiate.
"A Chandigarh resident had admitted his daughter to Jamia Madrasa cum inter-college, located under Lodhipur PS, last year. When he again brought his daughter to be admitted to the madrasa, this time, the admission cell in charge of the madrasa, Shahjahan, misbehaved with him and also demanded a medical certificate of the girl," news agency ANI quoted a police official as saying.
According to the police, the madrasa management also made some allegations about the character of the girl.
The father of the girl, Mohammad Yusuf, claimed that he had admitted his daughter to the madrasa last year, but the management refused to give her admission to the next class.
He had to take the girl to Chandigarh for some reason, but when he brought her back and tried to get her back to the madrasa, the authorities claimed that the father used to behave inappropriately with the girl.
"My daughter was alone with me, so the madrasa management told me to get a medical check-up done for her before she would be admitted. They said, if the certificate was not submitted for any reason, she would be expelled from the madrasa," the father has been quoted as saying.
According to him, although the madrasa management took Rs 500 for the TC, they refused to provide it.
"We got a complaint regarding this. In this case, Shahjahan has been arrested. One Rehnuman is missing; we are trying to locate him," the police official said.
