The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras bagged the top spot for the seventh year in a row as Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings on Thursday.
Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru came second in the overall rankings, while it secured the top spot among the universities.

IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkie came in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh positions, respectively, in the overall rankings. All India Institute of Medical Science, Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru University were ranked in the eighth and ninth positions, while Banaras Hindu University secured the tenth spot.

Among universities, JNU was ranked second, while the third and fourth positions went to Manipal Academy of Higher Education and Jamia Millia Islamia, respectively.
Among colleges, Delhi’s Hindu College was ranked the best, followed by Miranda House and Hans Raj College. Kirori Mal College is at the fourth spot, while St Stephen's College has secured the fifth position.
Kolkata’s Rama Krishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College and Delhi’s Atma Ram Sanatan Dharm College were listed in the sixth and seventh positions, respectively, while Kolkata’s St. Xavier’s College bagged the eighth spot. Two colleges from Coimbatore—PSGR Krisnammal College for Women (9) and PSG College of Arts and Science (10)—were featured in the top ten list.

Among Open universities, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is at the top spot, followed by Karnataka State Open University, Mysuru.
