In a serious security breach, a BMW biker on Tuesday morning sped through the heavily crowded platform 2 at Ernakulam North Railway Station in Kochi, risking lives of passengers awaiting trains.

The incident, which was captured by CCTV cameras at the railway station, happened around 4.40 am on Tuesday, immediately after the Pune-Kanyakumari Express left the platform. The man was identified as M.S. Ajmal, 36, from Mudikkal, Perumbavoor. He entered through a side gate on Platform 2 and rode through the crowd and even swerved past a security guard.

Following this, personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) chased Ajmal who abandoned the BMW G 310R at the southern end of the plaform next to Ernakulam North railway overbridge, reported Onmanorama. He then removed the key of the rented bike and vanished from the area.

Ajmal was identified from the documents that he had submittted to EVM Wheels in Thykoodam, Kochi, from where he rented the luxury bike worth Rs 4 lakh on August 30. He had rented the bike for a month at the rate of Rs 65 an hour.

Police are still searching for the driver who they believe was under the influence of drugs. He has a history of using drugs in the past. A red bag carried by the suspect has raised concerns about possible sabotage attempts.

Ajmal has been slapped with charges under BNS Sections 281 (rash driving), 329(a) (criminal trespassing as well as Railways Act 150(a)(e) for maliciously wrecking or attempting to wreck a train) and 153 (endangering the safety of person travelling on a railway by an unlawful act).
