Dispute on ‘chunni prasad’ turns fatal in Delhi temple; sewadar murdered

A sewadar at the Kalkaji temple in Delhi was brutally murdered by a group of men following a dispute related to ‘chunni prasad’ on Friday.

According to reports, the deceased has been identified as Yigendra Singh, 35, a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi. He had been serving at the temple for around 14-15 years.

The incident took place in the evening when the accused persons reached the shrine for ‘darshan’ and demanded ‘chunni prasad’ from Singh, leading to an altercation, reported ANI.

The brawl escalated with the accused men assaulting Singh with sticks and fists.

After receiving a PCR call around 9.30 pm, police reached the spot and arrested one of the accused, Atul Pandey, a resident of Dakshinpuri. A search is on to nab the remaining accused.

Singh was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre where he died during treatment.

Police have registered a case under sections 103(1)/ 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
